Catbrook & District Memorial Hall

Get Involved

The best bits

Seeing, and being part of, how the hall brings everyone together. The enthusiasm from across the community to organise, contribute, volunteer, and attend events is amazing.

Oh, and of course getting early notice of what events are coming up so I can save the date!

The challenges

Knowing enough about the community to decide which events (from the long list available through the Government’s Night Out scheme) would be popular.

The small print! What’s REALLY involved

In a nut-shell, the team is responsible for managing events and private bookings at the hall - both to enable and organise events for the community to enjoy, but also to raise funds for upkeep/maintenance so that there continues to be a space for the community to use.

I was hesitant about the time commitment and expectation of ‘officially’ being part of the group, but it really is just about giving a regular commitment to support where you can (as much or as little as you can offer) so that collectively many hands make light work.

The team (currently 7 of us, of varying ages and interests) meet for about an hour once a month, and keep in touch/coordinate things via email and WhatsApp in between if needed.

Over the past year I’ve cleared glasses during an event (which I was attending anyway), put tables out, baked a few cakes, greeted new hall hirers, swept the floor, and offered ideas for new/future events.

It’s genuinely been a great way to feel part of, and contribute to, the community.

Being part of the Hall’s events team:

Reflections from our newest member

Hi, I’m Kelly (Kell), the newest member of the events team for our District’s Memorial Hall in Catbrook. We’re always looking for new volunteers, so I’m sharing my reflections with the hope it may encourage you to join the team!

Find out more / Get involved

We’re always looking for new members, so if you’d like to find out more you’re welcome to pop in to say hello/see what we do during our monthly committee meetings (7-8pm on the first Monday of each month), chat to one of the team at an event or if you spot them out and about, or email Phil at (chairman.catbrook@gmail.com).

And if formally joining the team feels too big a step - you’re always welcome to get involved with adhoc events to test the waters, and be part of a growing group of vital supporters.
